RESEARCH QUESTION

Dear All,

I was wondering if you could help me here please?

I am looking a purchasing a Deck package to continue my DJing. I was trained last year, which included some gigs at local clubs and really enjoyed myself, so am looking at continuing as a hobby. Also probably next year I plan to go into a venture with my brother offering karaoke and DJing running along side each other (i.e. someone sings on the karaoke, there are a couple of songs, then back to karaoke.....).

Taking this fact into consideration (the mobile venture), I would like to enquire if you could possibly advise me on equipment? Ideally if it is at all feasible, my brother and I would want to work off the same PA system, in order to save space and set-up time. Having spoken to a local DJ, he suggested to me to use a combination of music formats including vinyl, CD and MP3.
He also recommended that (for vinyl decks), I get Technics 1210 if I can get them.

At the moment I'm looking at something like this for decks and MP3 as a possibility.

STANTON 120C DIRECT DRIVE TURNTABLES (STANTON T 120C - DIRECT DRIVE TURNTABLE (PAIR)- PAIR OF)

BEHRINGER DJX 700 4 CHANNEL MIXER (BEHRINGER DJX 700 - 4 CHANNEL MIXER- EACH)

STANTON FINAL SCRATCH V2 - DIGITAL VINYL SYSTEM (STANTON FINAL SCRATCH V2 - DIGITAL VINYL SYSTEM- COMPLETE PACKAGE)
Obviously I would need to obtain a laptop to work the software.

To play CD's I was looking at possibly getting these if I can afford them.

PIONEER CDJ 800 MK2 - CD TURNTABLE (PAIR) (PIONEER CDJ 800 MK2 - CD TURNTABLE (PAIR)- PAIR OF)

The decks/mixers would obviously be stored in a appropriate flightcase / coffin to protect them from damage. I'm looking at this one:

KAMKASE TT 19 - 19" MIXER & 2 TURNTABLES FLIGHTCASE DECKSTAND (KAMKASE TT 19 - 19" MIXER & 2 TURNTABLES FLIGHTCASE DECKSTAND- EACH)

In terms for music, I am trying to get as wide range as I can, covering all major genres . I am obtaining vinyl from HMV, charity shops, car-boot sales and ebay. (I recently secured 30 brand new dance records from ebay for £11 including postage.) I am also building up a range of CD music as well. I am buying music I like and music that I personally may not listen to often (if at all) to try and achieve a fair balance. Would you suggest that is a good course of action or do I need to change? All CDs/vinyl would be stored in appropriate boxes. I already have two full vinyl boxes.

In terms of lighting, I was maybe looking at something like this package here:

SOUNDLAB PARTYZONE 2 - COMPLETE LIGHTING KIT (SOUNDLAB PARTYZONE 2 - COMPLETE LIGHTING KIT- COMPLETE PACKAGE)

ACME LED PENGUIN MOONFLOWER LED LIGHTING EFFECT (ACME LED PENGUIN MOONFLOWER - LED LIGHTING EFFECT- EACH)

In terms of headphones I am considering the VESTAX KMX 3 as I am not keen on "close-cup" headphones.

VESTAX KMX 3 STICK HEADPHONE
VESTAX KMX 3 - HEADPHONE (STICK TYPE)- EACH

Finally for the microphone. I already own one as I need it for some of the advocacy work I do, speaking up for the rights of disabled people. I would also use it for the Djing as well when we get started. It is a Gemini Radio Microphone Headset, and can be viewed here:

GEMINI UX16 HEADSET RADIO MICROPHONE UHF SYSTEM (Gemini UX16 Headset Radio Microphne UHF System - DJ Kit)

All of the above, is just thoughts as to possible equipment. Do you think it would be appropriate for a mobile DJ venture?
Should I add or remove anything from the above proposed?

I hope I have explained well enough, and also hope this post isn't too long for you all. Please accept my apologises about the length.

If you need further information, please don't hesitate to contact ask.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Kind Regards,

Marc Watson
