| getting speakers for home and gig use might be a bit tricky, unless you have very nice neighbours who like your tunes. for home i would recommend a pair of active monitors, for gigs at least a kW of dedicated soundsystem

| so many things to consider, dya just want a pair of speakers or dya want mid/tops and then bass bins? or a 3 way system? need to be a little more accurate with how much you have. I reccommend the wharfedale evp series or DAP audio (but not the cheaper ranges)

| Depends how much you want to spend but tbh i wouldn't go near wharfedale or dap audio gear for a rig that'a going to be out gigging - it really is the cheap budget end of the market and those brands won't take much abuse at all. If you want to buy ready made units you are better of looking at jbl or turbosound speaker cabs. There are several good brands for reasonably priced amps including peavey, carlsbro and a german company called c-mark. The last reggae night i was involved with wanted to get a little rig, we managed to get 2 x 300W bass bins and 2 x 200W mid/top cabs (all turbosound) for about ?600 off ebay (they were in great condition too) and a 2k carlsbro amp (runs 2k at 4ohms but only 1k at 8ohms) for ?300. I know that probably seems a lot of money but it's actually pretty cheap for a great sounding little system. With audio gear you really get what you pay for. Depending on what you're doing (size of venue etc)you may not need bass bins. If you plan on letting other people play on it and don't want to spend all night watching to make sure your amp doesn't clip i would also thoroughly reccomend getting hold of a limiter

| out of the the three you're looking at i'd go for the dap audio stuff, wharfedale make great hifi speakers but their pa gear is awful. Behringer amps are okish but there speakers are shite. Make sure you hear them going first though, any sign of distortion and don't go there. Take some music along that tests the whole range i.e. heavy on the bass, screaming tops and lots of mid range. Listen especially hard for clarity in the bass and tops. Once you get your gear make sure you look after it - it's an investment after all, take good care of it and it will last a lot longer. I know it sounds obvious but i've met so many people who rinse soundsystems and then end up wondering why doesn't sound so good after a while, or why their speakers are blowing etc. The most important things for good sound quality are to make sure that you'r not running too high a signal out of your mixer (red led's flashing is not a good thing) and that you don't let your amp clip (again flashing led's is not good). Apart from that don't chuck your gear around, let people put pints on it (someone spilt a pint on one of our night's cdj200's a few months back - we weren't happy bunnys), keep it dry, dust free etc. Anyway most important thing - enjoy it ![]()
