Default How to Structure your Mix?

hi guys, hope for a bit of advice on how to structure my mix, i have been bedroom djin for a few years, been messing around with mixing records here there and everywhere and have recorded some mixes ranging from awful to half decent

how do you guys structure your mix?

i.e - do you make sure all the records fall within the same bpm (or there abouts) (all 130/131 etc...)

- all the same genre etc...?

hope this question makes sense

any advice would be gratefull

cheers

phil

personally speaking start off with lower bpm and build up to the faster stuf, its gona make a set a whole lot easier and better if u start off slower and work to faster stuff.

Well for me, it's about the general 'strength' or 'potency' of a tune. Although you want to keep the whole set interesting and of a high quality in terms of music, I try to start off with the 'weaker' tunes and gradually build up to the powerful ones. I've maintained the same BPM and genre throughout the set.

I appreciate that this is not a definitive way to do it. There is no right or wrong really. But it's how I like to hear sets played and how I aim to do them myself.

i agree, you could build it up too with lower/ slower tunes 1st, then bring in some bigger tunes, go back down to "filler" tracks etc

Hi Phil

Agree with most the statements above. Make sure you record every mix you put together, listening back to yourself can be alot different to when your actually in the mix, you can get a real sense of what your audience would be thinking and get an idea of what vibes to play and where to place them in the mix.

Hope it helps, keep it up mate.

Jak..
