i find it useful to set eq points when mixing aggressively, say for example i'll bring my bass in a quarter turn of the rotary at a time (rather than fade itt slowly) as it creates an impact straight away, this applies to mids and tops the same. I also find that eqing my cuts is worth doing as well, muck around and experiment. Don't be afraid to let people 'hear' the mix it can enhance peoples experiance on the dancefloor.

Programming is also essential make sure your mixing happens at the right time i.e. 16's and 32's otherwise it just sounds wrong when bits come in at the wrong time

much the same again as tom there, good to set eq points when mixing aggresively, timing is a thing too, bass swaps after mid breaks or cymbal changes is another way to keep the mixes flowing, when going into a break depending whether it's a short break or main break in record, if it's a short break cut the bass on the main tune, keep the mid low on the incoming tune, slowly increase mid on the incoming tune, same with highs too then when it's about to kick off put the bass back on the incoming tune which now becomes your leading tune in the mix..
