This is done by DJ’s sometimes, say when coming to the end of a set and your going to play an encore track or you just want to stop the live and play a chilling tune at the end of your set for others to chill out a bit before they go home Where as other times some DJ’s will do this when finishing there set so the crowd know that the next DJ is about to come onDo you slow down the record for the reasons mentioned or have done at some point?

i dont usually do this at the end of a set but i do sometimes do it during a set. ie. if theres a massive build up or something i might slow the tune down for maximum effect before the track kicks back in, not so much used anymore though

really if your not headlinig then you should carry on with your first tune mixing in after the dj has finished as i find it ruins the progession of the night otherwise. but like say in a mix cd or if our doing a slot on the radio the yeh it's usually good.
