Default Monitoring

There are many different ways to monitor sounds when mixing, using split cue is one way
Which method (s) do you use?

Well some monitor in there headphones, match up then take the cans of and mix live
I can do that sometimes lol

Some use split cue = one track coming through the left can and another track coming through the right can. I tried using split cue but didn't boom lol

i try and keep my headphones off as much as possible once i'm in the mix and just use the monitor, have been finding these days that once i have my tunes in time and rolling as it were i pretty much don't need the phones anymore

i use the headphones to cue up the records & get em matched with a little bit of split cue on the phones so i can just hear the other tune in the headphones slighty, then when in the mix i'll take the phones off & listen to monitor(in good situations) & just have a listen with headphones every so often.

I don't have very good monitors either, just using some crappy Awia speakers.

my soundsystem at home is pretty good but alot of venues have shit monitoring in the booth or none at all which can be a nightmare to mix on, so just gotta use the phones

i tend to refuse to play if there are no monitors, i know that sounds pretty big-head superstar djesque but if folks can't get the simple things like monitors right then chances are they won't get much else right either. Plus i find playing without so un-enjoyable it doesn't seem worth it

have had to play loads of times with shit monitor set ups and it's a real struggle, i don't get it really as it's such a simple thing to sort out and will increase the dj's enjoyment of a night, the quality of mixing and ultimately the crowds enjoyment. Promoters take note: sort your monitors out.

The orange peel in rhyl is classic for always having shit monitors - i know you'll agree with me there fil

it wouldn't put me off playing a venue unless it was really loud club and i couldn't hear a thing

most of the places i play you're sat behind the speakers to prevent feedback on the decks, so really what you hear is not a very good representation of the sound if you know what i mean.
As you say in small quiet clubs on little rigs you can get away with it but i don't much like playing techno on rigs under 2.5/3k anyways as i reckon it doesn't sound right - unless it's a particularly good quality system.

tbh i've played loads of gigs in the past on bad setups and it's just a bit of a chore, i can't be bothered anymore i'd rather let someone else play and just enjoy meself instead
