Default Howdy

Hello everyone, hope to have some fun here, and share tips, get advice etc.

I've mainly just played parties so far, apart from the occasional self-promoted gig, usually with some live acts on the bill. The fact is I'm not really aware of anyone who mixes the stuff that I do, possibly because there's no market for it... however, when I do get the chance to play for an up for it crowd, they go mad for it, and I get a lot of positive comments.

Basically I'm frenziedly eclectic: I'll follow a dub track with some arabic hip-hop, followed by some celtic dance (Shooglenifty, AfroCelt et al), then funk, then rai (North African funk), salsa, old skool house, and so on. If anything predominates it's probably funk and latin, but basically I play the sets I used to fantasise about dancing to before I started DJing. Obviously that kind of variety precludes beat-matching most of the time, as different styles tend to have big tempo differences, but I've found that if you lay down grooves fat enough to drive a truck through one after the other, people seem to like it!

Trouble is I have no idea where I could play this out, as most nights are established on the basis of one style, or not many, so any advice would be welcome.

I'm working on tracks for an album ? I'm a musician by trade, so they're not all dance music orientated. Last year I poured a pint of beer in my laptop on a rare paid DJ gig, and wiped the lot , so I'm starting from scratch, but you can hear some of what I had before at MySpace: www.myspace.com/oliarditi What's coming out now seems to be more instrumental fusion than dance music, but if any good beats slip out I'll post a link...

Sorry for such a long first post. Once you get me started...
