Smile CATZMUZIK with Andre Crom and Mistress De Funk (Radio 1)

CATZMUZIK @ AQUARIUM, FRI 18 July
ANDRE CROM / MISTRESS DE FUNK / DAN CATZ / AND MORE.

It's part minimal, part old-school Classic Records - a label that throws curveballs at the dancefloor to see what sticks. The brainchild of London party heroes the Catz (AKA the Cheshire Catz), the Catzmuzik label has fans from Justin Martin to Italoboyz to Hannah Holland to Simon Baker - each one of whom sent back exactly the same reaction to the last Catz track, Straitjacket - "I love it". (OK, we exagerate - Simon said only, "Ooh yeah, I really like this". But he's Northern.)

And so now it's the second Catzmuzik party. Following on from being made Mixmag Future Heroes, their residency at the Veryverywrongindeed afterhours, and the Catz own insane "Cheshire St parties" - the second last of which had 1500 people crammed into four flats off Brick Lane, and spontaneously formed its own taxi rank, and the last of which was one of the most insanely rammed of the final months of much-missed venue the Key - this time round the Catz are focusing on their own sound. With raves from Sasha to Claude von Stroke to James Zabiela, Radioslave to Audiofly, Ralph Lawson to Sebastien Leger, Tom Stephan to Funk D'Void, it's a wonky new stripped-back UK template for house that DJ magazine described as "taking acid, electro, techno and trancey influences and build it all together with a view to creating mass hysteria".

“'From cult underground London DJs to globe-trotting electro/techno/minimal hotshots ... One of the hottest UK DJ/Production acts around” - DJ Mag

Following a successful launch with headliner Marc Romboy, Catzmuzik returns to the Aquarium for its second installment. Headlining for this party are Andre Crom and Mistress de Funk (Radio 1), with the backroom headed up by POPCOX.

Andre Crom: a regular on the London afterhours scene, Germany's Andre Crom is one of the fastest rising DJs in Techno from his bleepy releases on Heimatmelodie to his nastier tracks on Veryverywrongindeed Recordings (and a great remix on Catzmuzik), he is also a regular on Sender, Memo and Leftroom - and a favorite of Madga and Richie Hawton.

Mistress De Funk (Radio 1): She was the first women to hold a residency at Sankeys and the first DJ to have a minimal show on Radio 1. From first DJing as a young fiend at 15 to bringing guests like Steve Bug and Stephen Bodzin to her Tribal sessions night in the north, Mistress De Funk is fast becoming one of the best known electronic DJs in the UK.

DAN CATZ
The deeper and darker of the Catz duo, Dan Catz is about to release a string of singles on Catzmuzik - collaborations with dub KULT, Olivier Giacomotto, Timo Garcia and remixes of two major-label guitar bands to go with Claude von Stroke favourite "Dunewalker", including in a recent Mixmag cover CD. That's alongside the Catz existing catalogue - remixes on Germany's BluFin, the US's Black Van, a remix of perennial faves Coldcut for the Ninja Tunes, and tracks on Berwick St, FAKT, Playtime and a Radio 1 Essential new tune with "Discotech".

"Fucked up groovy minimalistic shit" - Laurent Garnier.

POPCOX: POPCOX is the epitome of fun; thumping good dance floor music to make you stamp and scream - do you still have the bottle to dance like no-one’s watching? If you happen to be in the room while POPCOX is on the decks, expect to be scowled at, winked at, bitten, chewed up and spat out in a musical fiesta of phat funk-laden disco, electro and house music carefully selected to make you boogie so hard yo’ gonna ache all next week girl! The ultimate antidote to all things chin-strokey, POPCOX has had an epiphany, her life mission is one of musical rebellion, the revolution starts here…… POPCOX - Freak out and get down xxx
