Default Pioneer DJM400

Time has come... i'm thinking of getting a DJM400.

I've checked the spec out etc. although on here DJ Mixers - Pioneer - DJM400 Mixer - decks.co.uk it does say that the DJM-400 has been designed with as a perfect partner for the MP3 compatible CDJ-200 both in terms of style and function. When combined, these units create a small, portable yet powerful and robust DJ setup that offers exceptional versatility and performance

Now I have Pioneer CDJ 500's at the moment, I'll be upgrading to Pioneer CDJ 1000's as soon as I can afford them. My question is this... will the Pioneer CDJ 1000's be just as good a partner for the DJM400? I'm not too keen on the Pioneer CDJ 200's.

I think they did the same for the DJM800 only it was designed to be as a perfect partner for the Pioneer CDJ 1000's instead. I'm not too sure to be honest.

I was thinking of just getting a second hand DJM 500/600 to go with my Pioneer CDJ 500's. I just don't see the point paying around ?350 for a second hand DJM 500/600 when I could get a brand new DJM 400 for the same price.

i'd get a second hand DJM 600. As long as you don't buy one for like ?150 or owt it will probably have been treated well and they're robust and last forever, great mixers aswell, especially at that kinda price

Hey bro, I was also thinking some about getting the DJM400 .The price range is deffanitly a plus. But I did go ahead and pay for a used DJM600 for about 650USD and I guess I've had it for nearly 2 weeks and I'm loving it! I've never used the 400 so I couldnt realy compare. But if they said its a great mixer when combined with the CDJ-200 I dunno if thats a realy great thing seeing that the 200 has so many more big brothers now. If I had the CDJ500's I would go with a used DJM 5/6 ,IF around the same price as the new 400 *MY 2 CENTS* I'm sure the 400 is a great mixer !

Good points made there guys

Yeah I might just go for a second hand DJM500/600
Either one of them will be much better than the DJX700 that I'm using now anyways. Anything but using the DJX700

True, the x700 was deff. worth a every penny I think. After reading up ,it seems the djm400 is pretty much just a 2 channel 500..?

I'd say the djm400 has a bit more to offer than the just the effects that the djm500 has

Quote:
The new compact 2ch mixer, the DJM-400, offers a host of beat effects and an in-loop sampler that offers a new level of flair for creative remixing. Built around the same digital processing technology and high quality components used in Pioneer?fs DJM-1000. The new unit is a reliable and robust performer with exceptional audio quality.

?ePioneer is a recognised innovator in professional DJ products and we?fve created a high-quality compact 2 channel mixer that?fs tailored to the demands of DJs mixing in bars and smaller clubs and those mobile artists who demand a reliable, robust and high-quality mixer. The digital beat effects and in-loop sampler combined with the digital circuitry ensure that this compact mixer lacks for nothing in the creativity it provides and the quality of the sound,?f comments Mark Grotefeld, European Marketing Manager, Pioneer Europe.

Although the smallest mixer in Pioneer?fs range, the DJM-400 packs a wide variety of effects for creative mixing. The effects, that automatically detect the BPM of the music and sync to the beats include: Delay, Echo, Filter, Flanger, Phaser, Robot and Roll, all of which are processed at 24bits for the highest quality sound. In addition, by using the newly-adopted Beat Select Button, the DJM-400 automatically sets the effect time linked to the BPM for more intuitive play and responsive remixing.

The intelligent 96kHz/24bit sampler automatically detects the tempo of a track during playback, sampling it for four beats, then loops the sample. As the sampled audio is in sync with the beat of the track being played (no matter the tempo) the DJ is given more time to be creative. Samples are automatically beat matched and up to five samples can be stored in memory.
Each of the DJM-400?fs channels has a 3-band Kill EQ which ranges from +9dB to -??(infinity) for total control of the sound.

The DJM-400 has been designed with as a perfect partner for the MP3 compatible CDJ-200 both in terms of style and function. When combined, these units create a small, portable yet powerful and robust DJ setup that offers exceptional versatility and performance
the 400 has more to offer than the 600 but your just limited to only using 2 channels (i think)

With a 4ch mixer you can use 2x cd decks as well as 2x turntables at the same time. Another advantage having a 4ch mixer is that it's easier to connect up to pc's better too.

With the djm400 you can see on the back of mixer that it has phono/line-in and cd connections though so I'm guessing that you could have say 2x turntables on the go as well as one cd deck or viceverser.

Yep. You could do the same with a 2ch mixer too.

But no, with either 2ch or 4ch you wouldn't need to unplug your speakers/monitors as they come off amp or booth monitor

There’s a few way you can have it set up

master output = amp / speakers

record output = tape deck / cd recorder / record from this to pc using a 2 phono to 1 male jack lead going into pc

booth monitor = monitoring speakers / record from this to pc using a 2 phono to 1 male jack lead going into pc

you can do the above whether it's a 2ch, 3ch or 4ch with most mixers, the better mixers you can anyway.
