Default Audio Anarchy - Episode 25 - 'Weekender' [ElectroHouse/RobotRock/FunkyTechno]

Audio Anarchy - Episode #25

ElectroHouse. RobotRock. FunkyTechno.

There's some seriously dope shit coming out of Paris these days.

Ten years after Daft Punk first dropped "Around the World," their influ-
ence can still be heard in the new wave of French dance music. It's that
future-retro sound. It's that fusion of synth-pop, techno, house, acid-
house and electro. It's robot rock.

The Ed Banger label is just on fire right now and--what d'ya know--
they're French. They've gotten label of the year honors from both URB
and XLR8R. I first got a taste of this label from listening to DJ sets
by the likes of Tom Neville and Erol Alkan (both Londoners) sometime
around late last year. They were bangin' Ed Banger acts, like Justice
and Mr. Oizo. Justice (who first made an appearance in my sets on AA
Episode #19) has reinvented electro with their use of heavy, rock n' roll
styled distortion. Mr. Oizo (first appearing on AA #18 ) gets me every
time with his IDM influenced glitch and edits galore. Just awesome stuff.

One of the stand out tracks to me is the Soulwax track. Although from
Belgium (not France!), their album "Night Versions" sounds like Daft Punk
done proper.

If you want to get real old school, you might catch a whiff of some of DJ
Dan and Donald Glaude-style banging house and funky techno in here
as well. I idolized both of them back in the day and I definitely feel
touches of their influences in this mix.

Lastly, to celebrate the 25th episode of Audio Anarchy, I created a
track specifically for this set. Usually the tracks I make are made
independent of my DJ sets and are incorporated when an opportune
moment comes. Not so this time. The track "Weekender" was created
for the sole purpose of opening up this mix and establishing the vibe.

Cheers! Here's to another 25...
