Default Equipment Advice

Hi guys. Just Starting out in the world of DJing and was wondering if anyone can advise me about what kind of equipment is good for starting out on.

Im looking at spending between £500 - £750 to get a decent starting set up.
Im also not sure really if I want to start on CDJs or Decks.

Any advice u have would really be appreciated.

Default Only My Opinion

Hey bro

Good to hear your going to get set-up. Be prepared for it to take over your life though!!!

I'm not too sure about prices in pounds due to now living on the other side of the world, but, and this is only my humble opinion, the way forward is to learn on the real-deal. From my personal experience I reckon that learning to mix using proper vinyl on proper turntables is the way forward. Once you've got that down learning to play cdj's is a piece of piss.

This probably isn't the cheapest way to go because if you do get the bug then in a year or so after buying decks you'll be wanting cdj's. But, if you buy as good a pair of turntables and mixer as you can get straight off then whilst your learning save for some mp3/wav players.

Personally I have a pair of Stanton turntables and Denon multi-media players and a Denon mixer and would definitely encourage anyone to take a similar path.

Like I say though, this is only my opinion and I'm sure that you will get some advice which is the complete opposite. The thing to remember is to buy gear you are happy with, after all, your gonna be the one that spends all their time with it.

I have to agree to the above post. I started out 2 years ago on technics 1210 that i got cheap off ebay and used them for a year. only reason i went to cdj1000 was that i was unable to find the tracks i wanted on vinyl, otherwise id still be using vinyl. both will give u the taste for djing. just remember its not a hobby you can put down.

Default i would reccomend....

so basicly i would recomend u 2 buy "pioneer cdj 100s".
a pair of them u can get frm 300 to 500 pounds.
they're almost unbreakable and very easy 2 handle.
i think i don't need 2 describe them here because u can get
all the information frm the web.
hmm...all i can say 'bout the mixer is that you can
buy anyone. dosen't really matter what 2 buy. if u're
just a beginner u don't need 2 buy something special.
u can buy very good mixers made by "Numark"...a mixer
for 100 pounds will be more than enough for the first time.
finaly i want 2 say that i have no idea about turntabels frm stanton,
but all the other equipment made by them is crap! i'm sure that even
a transformer made in china can provide better quality than a
"stanton cdj" or mixer , lol. all i've written here is frm my personal
expirience...anyway...good luck man

@ djchrisc ---> m8, whats the prblm ? u can record on vinyl whatever u want.
there are a lot of companys that are providing that service. especially in UK

Wink

you should have a look on Hard To Find - Vinyl Records, DJ and Music Technology Equipment they do some great offers on gear for starting out allso they have a large vinyl database and sell most thing dj related. dont be swayed by people telling you that "you must buy tecs and pio's" just because they are industry standed. having the best equipment will not make you a better dj having a passion for music will imho.

Thats a big expense for the sake of one track or even a couple, when you can burn to a cd in seconds.

Have to agree learning on vinyl is key, well was for me anyway, If you can master belt driven decks you can master anything.
