I highly recommend Ableton Live (Ableton - Home). Its really simple to use and very easy to pick up everything that it has to offer i've been using live since version 5 (for about 2 and a half years) and im hooked, i use it for production aswell as live performance alongside cd decks and turntables. Ive just got myself Logic Pro 8 aswell. I would highly recommend that you get yourself logic once you are confident with making tracks etc. and want to get deeper into it as logic is a very comprehensive and complicated piece of software and will take a long time to master all the features

Hope that helps
Reece

A year ago i would have agreed with reece. I use ableton and love it to bits .... but with Ableton 7 being a bit more expensive than it used to be and the new version of logic studio being so cheap i would probably buy logic if i was starting from scratch now

Having said that i think ableton is a lot more user friendly than logic (as reece said it is a comprehensive and complicated bit of kit) - but some people disagree and can't get their heads around a non-linear style of seqencing

I would recommend that you download a demo of both spend some time with each one and find out which you prefer to use and invest in that.

At the end of the day different software suits different people if you are going to invest in some serious software make sure it's the right choice for you
