i run a mobile with my dad. We've had a few things go wrong over the years, but we have been doing it almost 6 years. We've had amplifiers where the fans gone and one channel has overheated (lucky we have backup). We even had one amp explode, literally. Most embarrasing thing was at a birthday party we did a few months back. On a wedding cd i have there is a really good buffet mix, this was playing during the buffet. Me n dad went outside to make a phonecall. The music stopped, so i went back inside, only to hear the wedding march playing and everybody clapping and cheering as i jogged accross the dancefloor, sooo embarrasing

Haha, yeah i was, i only have a couple of mastermix cd's, Wedding & Halloween, but they prove to be very useful occasionally and the "buffet mix" is really good

ah yes the buffet, no old ladies disco night is complete with out it! followed up by a raffle of corse. Then crank up the sound, put abba - dancing queen on, and watch dance floor fill-up.

This thread looks like a future one for me...

I've got a gig on Monday where the CD players are known to skip and jump like crazy. I went on a recon mission last Monday and the DJ had a nightmare! To make matters worse the DJ doesn't use a mic so instead of trying to cover for it with some self-depracting comment over the mic (or an improptu sing-along!) people just stood there looking at him as if he'd gone mental!

The DJ console being above the Subs probably doesn't help! I'm Going to take some nice deep foam pads to place under the players to see if that helps...

Oh well, we'll soon see!

Default Power Disaster

I've walked on stage and the power in the whole club went down. Lights, sound, every dam thing. The silence was defening. The only thing I could do was scream out, "Don't worry, I know what I'm doing!!"...................more like a big lull.......smooth.

i've played lots of places that have had dicey leads, fuses etc - have learnt to take spares and always check the set up before you play - the last place i played at the previous dj's had all been using cdj's and when i checked it out i found that the turntables weren't earthed

Have played at plenty of parties where the generator has just stopped for one reason or another, had a 15k generator at one party that stopped and had big flashing lights saying earth seepage - took it back to the hire centre the next day and they flicked a switch and it worked again - gutted

The worst gig i ever played was in a small barn where the bass from the soundsystem was causing large lumps of plaster to fall out of the roof onto the decks and all my records and me - it was hard work to say the least - but a crackin party nonetheless
