Its all about knowing the right people. If you get to know the promotors/club owners they are way more likely to listen to your mix and take it seriously than someone who has dropped in a faceless mix. I wouldnt mail any mixes, its always best to go visit the people you want to send them to. That way you can build a bit of rapour with him/her and they can put a personality to the mix there listening to.

im hopefully moving to the city soon, and i plan to get envolved with good nights there, just helping out with promotion to start off with, then work my way up to djing. I think this is the best way to get residencies and gigs, the otherway is to have some killer productions under your belt.

yeh mate, once you've done the cd & are happy with it, get the front cover sorted, inside cover too say with a small pic & some info about yourself dj wise etc... back cover the tracklist website details contact details. also you want a label on the cd itself with the name of the the demo, your dj name & contact details(incase they loose the cd case they've still got contact no for you).
if your deadly serious once cd is done you could take it to a studio they'd run off so many copies, covers, cases, even master the cd itself so it's got that 'studio' sound quality not sure about cost though i've always done mine myself.
