Default Firewire audio interfaces

Am finally biting the bullet and getting meself a computer for music (not that i'm turning me back on me hardware) so am gonna need to start thinking about audio interfaces - i guess firewire is the way forward.

Anyone got any reccommendations?? Got to have multiple outs so i can run channels to a mixer.

Any that should be avoided?

Would be grateful for some feedback

cheers

i'll know you'll need one with a fast processor & fair sized hard drive. minimum requirements 2.8ghz processor 80gb hard drive & you'll need a quality sound card to tom
been wanting to do this myself mate for some time especially after hearing the fat collective's tracks on yolk powertools & cluster. thinking of booking myself into manchester midi school on a production course, also been messing around with an mc 303 & sp 808

have got the computer sorted mate - will soon have a lovely apple mac dual core g4 coming through the post it's the interface i'd like advice on though am hugely tempted by a focusrite sapphire

sounds like you're thinking along the same lines as me as soon as i get up and running you'll have to come up and we'll write some tunes together. Am gonna keep my mc303 and sp505 running for an all hardware live set i think and just use the computer for the studio. I really feel like it's about time i got the music in my head out there...

Tom,

I would advise against m-audio firewire cards.
I've had 2 different ones and have no end to the troubles they bring.

Windows xp also has an issue with the power running through firewire, less power than 98se (for any windows users thinking of going down this route), however there are patches available.
