not used the 1000 but i spent a week playing on the 5000 at work the other week. The only thing i like about them is the spinning platter (5000). The layout is confusing and hard to understand (especially in a dark dj booth), you have to press too many buttons and different combinations to turn things on or off, it's just not very user friendy, i know the 1000 has less features (therefore less buttons) but if you're loking for a desktop player at that price id look at the Numark Axis Range (8 & 9). The one thing about Denon however is that all their products are top quality and built to the highest standard with the best components. If you really want Denon then they are good buys but i seriously recommend you check out the Axis range or save up a little longer and shell out for the technics sldz 1200 or the pioneer cdj1000
