I own ..
Technics SL1210 M3D (x2) with stanton n520 stylus on 505sk carts (cheap, bombproof, and can get replacements from just about anywhere),
Behringer djx700 (yes cheap, effects pretty useless, but treat it with care and it wil last years - mines 3 years n counting),
Sony mdr-v500 headphones (loud enough for small-medium sized clubs, light, great sound)...
I tried a few different turntables over the years. When mixing on high torque equipment I find it more difficult to get accurate adjustment to the pitch. Yes you need enough torque to keep the platter moving whilst cueing, but too much and it becomes harder to make finer adjustments when beatmatching. Technics got it 100% right perfect balance, plus they have the best speed controllers in the business which is another reason they are so good.
I have emailled panasonic asking them to confirm they intend to continue manufacture of the SL series for many years to come as part of my 'keep vinyl alive' campaign, still waiting for a reply (maybe I should have written in japanese hey !)....
