Cool Windows Vista

Mate of mine got a new PC at weekend and I helped to set it up, came with the new operating system Windows Vista and fooking hell it looks the bollicks, took me a while to find the 'My computer icon' as had to phone up theyre ISP for them (pretending I was them lol) as was having probs getting theyre net to go. Looks weird lol but pretty nifty.

anyone used it yet?

Yeah used it on my previous PC, liked the look of it and i liked some of the new features, but found some real problems installing certain softwares, so 've now gone back to XP pro for at least 6 months!!

For me it's Windows 3.5 all the way

I haven't seen Windows Vista yet though no. I heard it looks good but they've still got a lot of work to do. I?ll wait a while longer

It does look sweet and have had the chance to use it in pc world but thats about it so far.

I think i'm gonna stick with XP as a few music programmes have compatability issues with it and I really can't be bothered with the hassle of having to upgrade something that works perfectly fine just now.

Thumbs Down windows vista

I have a pc with windows vista I have it about 2 months now its good but full of bugs alot of software I have wont work on it and games too. But also the system restore wont work, The windows vista is realy built for broadband too I dont have broadband not avalable in my area yet you have to register the media center to get all the features but which downloads videos and songs strait away this has stoped me from registering it.

It is better than xp but with all these bugs its not worth buying just yet.

It does take a long time to start up like even when you think its all loaded and you still get messages saying that the system is loading crap

If you wanna migrate to Vista so badly, best wait until the first service pack is released.
That way, at least some of the bugs will have been ironed out - and also maybe some decent software will be compatible with it as well!

haha thats what i have on my studio pc! mainly cos the newer versions will eat up loads of power and i can't afford that with my machine... if you can call it that lol

although i tried to install some new synths the other day and it wouldnt hae any of it!!! so now i'm desperate for a new pc... with XP tho, dont trust vista till they get some of their bugs fixed - they aren't tested properly due to the rush of getting it released before it gets leaked.

It's so strange that I came across this post. I absolutely HATE Vista! I've been trying to record my demo for 2 days now on my mates PC. It has so many incompatibility issues with some of the most popular software!

First I tried recording in Wavelab 5, it seemed to be fine and all looked normal until I had finished the recording and wanted to save! It just closed, no error messages no nothing it just closed. I then decided to do the recording in Cubase, had no problems until I wanted to work on the recording in Wavelab!

I have only been using Vista for 3 days, but in those 3 days I discovered that it is not user friendly, the layout of the start menu is really crap and to locate anything that was easily accessible in XP is near to impossible. Besides all this it devours system resources. Programs that I have already had issues with include... Daemon tools, Photoshop 7, Wavelab 5 & Nero. Reason and Cubase seem to run fine though.

I seriously am not impressed with Vista! Here's another problem that I came across, when trying to copy a CD with Media Player (Nero doesn't work unless you have a vista compatible version) it will do so if you are wanting to copy an mp3, but as soon as you try copy a standard 16bit 44.1kHz WAV file it won't do it!!! Yes you can download Vista compatible versions of Daemon Tools, Nero etc but it such an annoyance! I definitely won't be buying vista when I get my PC.

Granted, I haven't given much time or patience to learning Vista but you would think it would be pretty much the same as XP in terms of operation or user-friendly but it's not.

I got Vita Ultimate when I ordered my new Alienware. Been 2 months now and the patches and updates are finally working out the bugs. Nvidia still needs to get on the ball with the video drivers but all and all its great.

Vista Ultimate

Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 2.66GHz 8MB Cache 1066MHz FSB

Alienware AlienIce 3.0 Video Cooling + AlienFX System Lighting + High-Performance Liquid Cooling

NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI Motherboard

4GB DDR2 Performance SDRAM at 800MHz - 4 x 1024MB

(3 x 450GB) external harddrives

Dual Layer Blu-Ray/DVD±RW/CD-RW Burner

Dual 768MB NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX - SLI Enabled

AlienAdrenaline: Video Performance Overclocking

Alienware 1000 Watt Multi-GPU Approved Power Supply

Alienware Edition Sound Blaster X-Fi Elite High Definition 7.1 Audio

Logitech Z-5450 Digital 5.1 Speaker System

We all had similar issues with the initial release of xp.
I kept my start menu in classic mode throughout xp ownership, but have decided to learn vista properly so have left it alone now.

Like all new operating systems (@microsoft) patches will be released and bugs ironed out.
Software developers will also be working hard to make there products vista compatible.

I know it will take time, but i've decided to use vista for both home and on the road because the software i am running works flawless.

Great site here guys innit

Whoa that's some set up BritKity

I had a go at using Vista on my brother’s pc the other day but didn't like it on bit. It's like using a completely different O/P altogether

I much prefer XP Home Edition/XP Pro.
